ASU's Directory application uses a person search mechanism that is similar to Google's.

ASU DirectoryBasic Search
- Searching by Name: If you enter a persons' first or last name and Directory finds only one match, that persons' profile will be displayed. If there are multiple matches, all matches will be displayed in a ranked list. The ASU Directory searches using each search term entree. For example, if you enter "Sparky S Sundevil" as a search term, it will return a list of all names that match "Sparky" OR "S" OR Sundevil". All matches are displayed at the top of the results page, and clicking on the person's name will load their profile.
- Searching by Keyword: You can also search for profile matches by entering a keyword or keywords, such as "nursing" or "environmental safety". The ASU Directory then uses the Google Search Appliance to search for Directory profile holders that have these keywords in the bio section of their profiles. Keyword searches are performed with all searches, and matches are displayed at the bottom of the results page.
Advanced Search
- On the Advanced Search page, you can narrow your search by entering search criteria into specific search fields. the ASU Directory will then search for matches ONLY in that specific search field. For example, if you enter "7425" in the Phone Number field, it will return only those matches where the phone number contains the digits "7425". You can also search students only, or faculty and staff only.
- Keymatch searches are NOT done on any search criteria on the Advanced Search page.
