Access Inclusive Access eBooks

Information

Kortext and Brytewave are the most commonly encountered e-books at ASU. The majority of Kortext and Brytewave e-books are provisioned as part of ASU's Inclusive Access program, through which required materials are integrated into the course Canvas shell and paid for at a discounted price via the student account. Students can also purchase e-book codes directly from the Bookstore for many courses not participating in the Inclusive Access program.

How do I access my e-book for a course participating in Inclusive Access?
To access your Bookshelf, first sign into MyASU, then click on your course Canvas shell. Once in the shell, you should see a link in the tools menu on the left pane titled "ASU Bookstore (if your instructor doesn't have the link activated, you can also access via this URL: https://student.follett.com). Click on that link where you'll see a list of your courses, along with any materials being used for those courses. If your course participates in Inclusive Access, clicking on the launch button will take you directly to the e-reader through which the book was provisioned, and the book will be on your shelf.

What if I don't see my e-book?
This could happen for a few reasons. First: how recently did you add the course? When adding an Inclusive Access course, it typically takes 24-48 hours for content to provision. Second: Did you accidentally opt out of the course materials? If you did, return to the opt-out portal, and opt back in (note: you must wait 24 hours for an initial action to process before taking a subsequent action). Third: Have you confirmed the course is participating in Inclusive Access? Fourth: There might be a disconnect between your email of record in the student information system and the email of record in Canvas. All ASU students have multiple email "aliases." Canvas is tied to your "asurite@asu.edu" alias. If your email of record in the student information system is your "named" alias (i.e. firstname.lastname@asu.edu), the single sign-on logic will break and you won't see the books load properly on your Bookshelf. Here's how to get around this issue:

Pathway depends on the e-book reader to which the title is assigned. Starting in FALL 2025, most e-books will default to Kortext:

1) https://read.na1.kortext.com

2) Enter your ASU email address EXACTLY as it appears in the directory: https://asu.edu/directory. HINT: Don't assume you know which email alias is your "official" email; check the directory.

3) Click "Forgot password"
3) Follow the password reset email sent to your ASU inbox to change your password.
4) Sign in using the email above as your username and the new password you created. The book will be on your shelf

Some titles might still be delivered through Brytewave during the transition to Kortext:

1) Go to https://brytewave.redshelf.com
2) Click "log in" then "Forgot Password" then enter your ASU email address EXACTLY as it appears in the directory: https://asu.edu/directory. HINT: Don't assume you know which email alias is your "official" email; check the directory.
3) Follow the password reset email sent to your ASU inbox to change your password.
4) Sign in using the email above as your username and the new password you created. The book will be on your shelf.

How do I access an e-book purchased from the Bookstore?
If you purchase an e-book directly from the Bookstore, you'll receive the redemption URL and PIN code either on your receipt (if you purchase in-store), or in your order confirmation email (if ordering online). Follow the redemption URL and 1) sign in if you already have an account, or 2) create an account. Once on the site, you'll see a box labelled "Redeem your Acess Code." Enter your PIN code and redeem and the book will be added to your shelf. It's best to use your email address EXACTLY as it appears in the directory (https://asu.edu/directory) when doing this; doing so ensures that your e-book will be accessible through the ASU Bookstore Canvas tool, as well as directly through the e-reader URL.
