Am I Eligible to Be an Arizona Resident?

« Go Back
Information
Your residency (tuition) status is initially determined by your ASU admission application. If you are a nonresident student who establishes domicile in Arizona and meets certain criteria, you can appeal for resident tuition status by submitting a petition for reclassification no later than the last day of regular registration.

Residency classification is a complex process. You are encouraged to review the Residency Requirements and Residency Appeal for an overview of the process.

Please note: Financial aid is calculated differently for residents and nonresidents. If you gain Arizona residency status, your cost of attendance will be reduced and your financial aid will be adjusted accordingly. Your financial aid may be reduced or cancelled and you may be required to return funds already disbursed to you.

Check with a financial aid counselor to see how a residency change might impact your awards. In the event of a financial aid adjustment, you will be notified by ASU email to check My ASU under the Finances tab for new award information.
