Why do I have a charge for "Digital Integrated Course Mtrl" on my student account? This charge is for copyrighted materials that are integrated into a course Canvas shell. Depending on the course, this copyrighted material may take a number of forms: courseware (the software on which the course runs), electronically integrated e-books, case studies, simulations, etc...
The material is delivered through ASU's
Inclusive Access program. Full program details can be found here:
https://bkstr.scene7.com/is/content/Bkstr/1230-ASU-IA-FAQSpdfASU is able to leverage our size to secure discounted pricing on copyrighted electronic resources that are required for participation in certain classes. The Inclusive Access program allows students to take advantage of this discounted pricing, which is usually 20-30% cheaper than if purchasing materials directly from the publishers.
Information about participating classes can be found in the class schedule at the time of registration (
https://asu.edu/classes), in the course syllabus or Canvas shell, and in emails sent to your ASU email address during the first weeks of the semester.
HELPFUL HINT: The University Technology Office advises NOT forwarding your ASU email to an external email account, as not all messages will forward.
Students are given the opportunity to opt-out of this program, if they choose, but only during the designated opt-out period. The opt-out portal typically opens 5 days prior to the start of the semester and runs through the end of the semester's add/drop deadline. After the opt-out period closes, ASU pays the publishers for the copyrighted resources and students are responsible for paying the associated costs.
