Taking an Incomplete (I) grade in your courses may result in a reduction of your financial aid if you don't receive an official grade within 45 days.
When you are approved for an Incomplete grade by your professor or college, you may be given up to a year to complete the remaining material. However, this timeline only applies to your academic record; this is the university allowing you more time to complete the course. More information on the academic implications of an Incomplete grade can be found on the Grades and Grading Policies page, as well as speaking with your professor and academic advisor.
Timeline for potential reinstatement of financial aid
If the incomplete (“I”) grade can be updated to a letter grade (“A” through “E,” “P” or “Z”*) within the 45-day Return of Title IV deadline, reinstatement of your financial aid is possible. If you do not complete any coursework (with a new grade posted) before the return of funds calculation is completed, but subsequently completes the coursework after the 45-day deadline, you are considered to have withdrawn from the semester and the return of funds calculation stands with no possibility for reinstatement of federal student aid for the semester.
For more information on how I grades are treated for financial aid purposes, please refer to the Title IV aid and incomplete grades information page.
