Students may check out of University Housing at any time; however, completing the official check-out process is the best way to avoid unexpected charges.
Please note that, depending on the time of year and your individual circumstances, checking out of your residence hall may not be sufficient to end your housing agreement. Students requesting to be released from their University Housing License Agreement after checking in may also be required to submit a **License Agreement Release (LAR)** request through the Housing Portal. For more information about the LAR process and eligibility requirements, visit the **License Agreement Release** webpage.
To complete a standard check-out:
* Notify your Community Assistant or Community Director that you are preparing to check out.
* Schedule an in-person room inspection once you have removed all personal belongings and are ready to vacate your space.
* During the inspection, University Housing and/or Facilities staff will document the condition of your room and review any applicable damage charges.
* Sign your Room Inventory Report (RIR) and keep a copy for your records. The RIR serves as documentation of your check-out date and time and any assessed damages.
* Return any issued room keys or access devices, if applicable. Students in communities that use electronic access only should follow the check-out instructions provided by their community. Your check-out is not complete until you have completed all required check-out steps and have been officially checked out of the housing system.
Express Check-Out
If you need to vacate outside of times when staff are available to conduct an in-person inspection, you may request an Express Check-Out.
By choosing Express Check-Out, you waive your right to appeal any damage charges that may be assessed after your departure. You must complete the required Express Check-Out process and return any issued room keys or access devices, if applicable.
Failure to complete the official check-out process, return any issued keys or access devices, or submit a required License Agreement Release request may result in additional charges or continued financial responsibility under your housing agreement.
