How Are Room Assignments Made?

« Go Back
Information

Most students select their own room through the Housing Portal when completing their housing application. During the application process, eligible students can search available spaces and self-assign into the room of their choice. Students may also use the roommate matching feature to connect with a compatible roommate and, if mutually matched, select a room together.

The self-selection process and available room options vary depending on your student classification (first-year or continuing student) and housing eligibility. Self-selection typically occurs during the first few months of the calendar year and generally closes on **May 1**.

If you do not select a room during the self-selection period, University Housing will assign you to an available space based on your housing preferences and availability. Once your assignment is confirmed, you will receive an email notification at your ASU email address.
