In order to receive a federal loan for the first time at ASU, you must complete a Master Promissory Note. The MPN is a legal document in which you promise to repay your loan(s) and any accrued interest and fees to the U.S. Department of Education. It also explains the terms and conditions of your loan(s).
The MPN should be completed online at studentaid.gov. You will need to log in with your FSA ID. It takes approximately five business days for ASU to receive the electronic confirmation that you have successfully completed the MPN; once we have received that confirmation, the MPN task on your My ASU will update to Completed. If more than five business days have passed since you completed the MPN the task has not updated, there may be conflicting information that needs to be resolved. For example, supplying the wrong Social Security number or date of birth on the MPN. If your parent is completing the Plus MPN for a Parent PLUS Loan, please make sure that the parent who accepted the loan is the one completing the MPN.
