How do I take a Pearson test with Respondus Lockdown Browser?

« Go Back
Information

When your instructor locks down a Pearson test or quiz, you cannot open other browser windows or applications while you are taking the assignment. For example, you cannot open a different browser or use your device’s calculator. If your instructor allows a calculator, use the calculator icon in the LockDown Browser toolbar.

Question help and learning aids are unavailable during a locked-down test or quiz.

Device Requirements

Pearson LockDown Browser is available for Windows PCs, Macs, and Chromebooks. Locked-down Pearson assignments cannot be completed on a tablet or smartphone.

Install the Pearson LockDown Browser

  1. Open the locked-down test or quiz from your Course Home page or the Homework and Tests page.
  2. If prompted, select Download Pearson LockDown Browser.
  3. Install the browser or extension:
    • Windows: open the downloaded .exe file.
    • Mac: Open the downloaded installer package.
    • Chromebook: install the Pearson LockDown Browser extension from the Chrome extensions page.
  4. Close other browser tabs and applications before starting the test.
  5. Return to the test and select Start Test.
  6. If prompted, select Open LockDown Browser OEM.
  7. Follow any messages that tell you to close other applications, then continue with the test.

You can also use Pearson’s Browser Check from your course to confirm that your system is ready and to update LockDown Browser if needed.

Take a locked-down test or quiz

  1. Open the test or quiz from your Course Home page or the Homework and Tests page.
  2. Install or update LockDown Browser if prompted.
  3. If the test includes automated proctoring, install the proctoring application if prompted and complete the monitoring setup.
  4. Take the test or quiz as usual.
  5. If available, use the calculator icon in the toolbar to open LockDown Browser’s built-in calculator.
  6. Submit the test or quiz.

After you submit, a message confirms that your locked-down session has ended. Select OK to continue.
