Completing the
FAFSA is the first step in the financial aid process. It is considered a snapshot of your family's financial situation and is how universities determine how much federal student aid you qualify to receive. The FAFSA allows you to be considered for federal, state and institutional grants, Federal Work-Study, and student and parent government loans. You apply for scholarships separately; however, some scholarships are awarded based on financial need and require a FAFSA to be submitted. Your financial need is determined after ASU receives your FAFSA.
For the 2024-2025 academic year the FAFSA will be open by Dec. 31, 2023. You must complete a new FAFSA each academic year that you wish to be considered for financial aid. ASU's FAFSA priority filing date is
March 1 for the 2024-2025 academic year. ASU's Federal School Code is
001081.
Additional documentation may be requested once you submit your FAFSA. Be sure to log in to
My ASU, select the
Finances tab
and check the
Financing Tasks box to see if any documentation is requested. You will also receive an email at your ASU email address if documents are required. Once all documents have been submitted and accepted, your financial aid file will be considered complete and you will receive a Financial Aid Notification by email.
Your awards will also be posted on
My ASU, under the
Finances tab, in the
Financial Aid and Scholarships box
.
