Accessing ALEKS Mathematics Placement Assessment

You must always access your ALEKS Mathematics Placement Assessment through ALEKS. You should never "manually launch" the browser for ALEKS; it has an auto-launch feature. That means you do not need a URL for the installation, it's embedded within ALEKS.

Note: If you have any issues, please reference the FAQ's listed here.

To access ALEKS Mathematics Placement Assessment using Respondus LockDown Browser, perform the following steps:

  1. Log into ALEKS using your preferred web browser.
Note: There is a tutorial available for students to view upon logging into ALEKS
  2. Open the assessment from ALEKS
  3. Download / Install the ALEKS version of Respondus LockDown Browser (just the first time)
Note: Even if you have previously downloaded Lockdown Browser for a course or assignment, you will still need to download this version as it is unique to ALEKS Placement Assessment.
  4. Launch the browser (and the test) from within your preferred web browser.
  5. ALEKS will prompt you to enter a proctor password. The password is ARIZONASTATE1.

Note: Once you are ready to take the exam, do so by clicking on the link titled "ALEKS Placement Assessment." You will then have 2 hours to complete the test.

This placement assessment also uses Respondus Monitor, which requires a working webcam. If you have any additional questions or for technical support assistance, you may call the Math Department at 480-965-7195. You may also email placement.math@asu.edu.

If you are looking to setup Respondus LockDown Browser for an ASU course and not an ALEKS Mathematics Placement Assessment please view How to Take a Test Using Respondus LockDown Browser and Webcam Monitor.
