Roommate requests can be made through the **Housing Portal** using the **Roommate Finder** feature during the housing application process. Students can search for potential roommates, connect with other students, and submit mutual roommate requests before selecting or being assigned to a room.
Residence halls are co-ed by room assignment. Individual rooms, suites (two rooms sharing a bathroom), and apartments are assigned as single-gender spaces. Students seeking housing outside of the standard sex-based room assignment process may submit an **Exception to Sex-Based Housing** request through University Housing. Requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
For first-year students, roommate requests are typically honored only when both students are assigned to the same residential college based on their academic major. For continuing and graduate students, roommate requests must be mutual between both students and are subject to availability.
Please note that while University Housing will make every effort to honor roommate requests, they cannot be guaranteed.
