I Had a Child After I Filed the FAFSA, Can I Be Considered an Independent Student Now?

« Go Back
Information
Yes, you may be considered to be independent if your child's due date will occur during the award year July 1 to June 30 and you will be providing at least half of the support to the child. If this situation applies to you, please contact Financial Aid and Scholarship Services to have your file reviewed. You will then be selected for a process called verification. You will also need to submit documentation to our office to be reviewed. These documents include a household form (which will include your child's name) as well as your child's birth certificate. In addition, you may be required to submit tax information.
