In order to ensure that you are successfully completing your degree program in a timely fashion, the federal government
requires ASU to monitor your academic progress. This process is called
Satisfactory Academic Progress. To remain eligible for federal and state aid programs, you must meet all three SAP standards as described below, regardless of whether you have received financial aid in the past.

GPA Standard
- You must maintain the minimum ASU GPA according to the ASU academic standards listed for undergraduate, graduate or law.
- The following are included in this measurement: grades from remedial coursework, failing grades (E's), failing did not complete (EU), and failing never participated (EN).
- The following are excluded from this measurement: incomplete course (I), repeat coursework, course in progress (Z) and your transfer GPA from other schools.
- If you are on academic disqualification, you are not eligible for financial aid.

Pace Rate Standard
- You must pass at least 66.66% of your total attempted credit hours. For example, you successfully complete 18 credits out of 24 attempted credits, your pace rate will be 75%.
- This is an accumulative measurement which includes transfer credit hours and credits awarded by exam.
- Passed credits include letter grades of A, B, C, D, P, Y, or RC and Law grades of P and X.
- These courses are counted as attempted but not completed (i.e., negatively impact your pace rate): no report (NR), failure (E), withdrawn (W), academic dishonesty (XE), remedial no credit (RN), or courses with a grade of Z in MAT 117.
- A passed course, if retaken, will be considered passed only once, yet attempted twice (i.e., receiving a D grade and then retaking the class to get a better grade).
- Audited courses, ungraded courses, remedial no-credit courses and courses with a grade of Z (except Z grades in MAT 117) are excluded from this measurement.

Maximum Credit Hour Standard
- You must not attempt more than 150% of the total credit hours required for your degree program. For example, if your degree program requires 120 credit hours, 150% of 120 credit hours is 180 credit hours.
- Transfer credits and test credits, accepted by ASU, count towards the maximum credit hour standard.
- A passed course, if retaken, will be considered attempted twice toward the maximum credit hour standard.
- Audited courses, remedial courses, incomplete (I), and failure for non-participation (EN) are excluded from this measurement.
- All undergraduate courses including minors, dual majors, dual or concurrent degrees and prior degrees must be completed within the applicable limit (i.e., 180 credit hours) to avoid a violation.
- If you have completed all degree requirements for an undergraduate program, and are eligible for graduation, you cannot continue receiving undergraduate federal student aid in order to complete a dual degree.
- If you have graduated with your first bachelor's degree and are pursuing a second bachelor's degree, you are allowed up to 270 credits (which include the attempted credits from your first bachelor's degree) to complete your second bachelor's.
- If you are a graduate student, you will be monitored for the maximum credit hour standard based on your academic program length.
