Information

When you need to access important data at ASU, you will be asked to verify who are by sending a signal to a device you own. We suggest you select two or more devices. This will keep you productive if any one device is unavailable.

Here are the different types of devices you can use:

Smart Phone and Mobile App

A smartphone allows you to use "push" notifications, passcodes, phone calls or text messages.
Push notifications, phone calls and text messages require that the phone has a signal.
Passcodes, however, do not require any WiFi or cell service which make them a great option for
international travel.

Phone and text message may incur fees, depending on your cell phone plan.

Key Fob Hardware Token

A key-fob hardware token displays passcodes. This does not require WiFi or cell service make them a great option for international travel.

YubiKey Security Keys

With a YubiKey, you store the authentication credentials on the key itself. Once initially setup using the self-registration process from DUO, the YubiKey will provide the required 2 factor authentication credentials each time ASU resources require them.
YubiKeys are available in multiple form factors that plug into a USB port on your PC or Mac.
Note that ASU strongly recommends using the YubiKey 4 Series Security Keys. The 4 series supports the latest security protocols.

 Cell Phone

You can use your cell phone to receive phone or text messages. The cell phone does not have to be a smart phone.

Phone and text message options may incur fees, depending on your cell phone plan.

 Land Line

You can receive a call on a landline, at your office, home, or other location.
Multiple people can use the same number in the case of a common office phone.

Phone charges may apply.

Internet Based Phone Number

An Internet based phone is software you can run on your computer, smartphone, cell phone or tablet.

Here are some of the more common Internet based phone options.

As you decide which devices to use, consider what type of network signal you will have when you need to authenticate. For example, basement labs may not have strong WiFi signals or international travel may limit your access to cell or Wifi signals.
