ASU requires students to meet satisfactory academic progress to remain in the Obama Scholars program.
To remain in the Obama Scholars Program (years 2-4) and receive tuition and fee coverage only, you must:
-
Remain Federal Pell Grant-eligible.
-
Meet satisfactory academic progress.
-
Enroll full time at ASU’s Tempe, West Valley, Polytechnic or Downtown Phoenix campus.
What if I’m not meeting renewal criteria?
The Obama Scholars Program will provide tuition and fee coverage only after the first year. Housing is only covered for on campus students during their first year at ASU. Off campus and with parent housing is not covered under the Obama Scholar.
If you are not meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress, you can submit a review explaining why you weren’t able to meet SAP, and request to have your aid reinstated for one probationary term.
Note: Your Obama scholarship will not be available for the summer semester. We will conduct a final review of your academic record at the end of the summer session.
- If you experience challenges throughout the year, such as difficulty with classes, time management, work or family responsibilities, or other cocurricular commitments, consult your academic advisor and use ASU resources to ensure you receive the guidance and assistance necessary to remain on track and continue to meet criteria for renewal and graduation.
