There are three possible outcomes of a thesis defense:
- Approved. An approved thesis may require only minor format/editorial corrections.
- Provisional Approval. A Provisional approval is the most common outcome and means that more significant format and editorial corrections are needed. Typically modifications to the content of the project are also required.
- Not approved. The least common outcome is not approved. Projects that are not approved have significant flaws in the basic design or overall execution. The defense presentation may also have been deficient.
