What Can the Libraries' Databases Do That Google Scholar Cannot?

« Go Back
Information
Each research database usually concentrates on just one area of study and comprehensively covers the world's literature for that area regardless of format (print, online, CD, microfilm, etc.). More importantly, special searching features are available that address the unique nature of that subject.

For example, "SciFinder" provides structure and reaction searching for the chemical literature, "Biosis Previews" provides hierarchical taxonomic searching in biology, "CINAHL" can limit the results of the nursing literature to a specific age group, and many business databases are able to limit results by geographic region and/or to a specific industry. Consequently, you usually find more relevant material that precisely matches your needs and that means you're using your time more efficiently.
