For federal student aid purposes, if you are currently serving in the U.S. Armed Forces (the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines or Coast Guard) or are a National Guard or Reserves enlistee who is on active duty for other than state or training purposes, you are independent.

My ASU, upload your DD 214 Member 2, 3 or 4 Copy. If you do not have a DD 214, you can upload a signed letter from your commanding officer stating that you are on active duty for purposes other than state or training purposes.
If you selected this status in error, upload a signed statement indicating an error was made. If this is the only status that is making you independent for FAFSA purposes, you must correct your
FAFSA and include parent information and
FSA ID signature.
