Guidance:
- Temporary custody and legal guardianship are not necessarily the same thing. Legal guardianship qualifies a student for independent status; temporary custody does not, unless they are considered by the state to mean the same thing.
- Power of attorney does not qualify a student for independent status.
If you selected this status in error, upload a signed statement indicating an error was made. If this is the only status that is making you independent for FAFSA purposes, you must correct your
FAFSA and include parent information and
FSA ID signature.
