« Go Back
Information

Loan Exit Counseling provides you with defermentforbearance and consolidation information if you decide to return to school or you are unable to make your payments for any reason.  It is federally required if you have borrowed loans and one or more of the following applies:

  • You reach 108 credit hours as a undergraduate student
  • You reach 36 credit hours as a graduate student
  • You reach 74 credit hours as a law student
  • You are not enrolled at least halftime at ASU
  • You enroll halftime or greater, but later withdraw to below halftime
  • You apply for graduation

The enrollment-based exit counseling tasks can generate multiple times across your academic career, depending on your enrollment patterns. For the credit limits, you are asked to complete exit counseling each semester until graduation or termination of attendance.

Exit Counseling is not a requirement to receive your loans, but it does provide important information on your student loan repayment obligations and options. Explanations of repayment programs, a repayment calculator and several other valuable resources are part of the counseling. This information is essential when determining your borrowing options.
