The Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education Grant is different from other federal student grants because it requires you to be in specific majors in order to get the grant, and then satisfy obligations to keep the grant from turning into a loan.
It provides grants of up to $4,000 per year if you intend to teach in a public or private elementary or secondary school that serves students from low-income families.
Please note: The Federal TEACH Grant maximum award amounts are adjusted each year due to the
sequestration.
If you have a
FAFSA on file, meet certain academic requirements and are admitted in a qualifying education program, you will automatically be awarded a Federal TEACH Grant. If you were not automatically awarded a Federal TEACH Grant, you can submit a
TEACH Grant Request eForm. Requests do not guarantee awarding of the Federal TEACH Grant.
Undergraduate students or those enrolled in a post-baccalaureate teacher credential program can receive a cumulative maximum of $16,000. There is an $8,000 cumulative maximum for graduate students.
