What is Verification and How Do I Complete It?

Information

FAFSA verification is a federal review process required by the U.S. Department of Education to confirm that certain information reported on a student’s FAFSA is accurate. Each year, some applications are selected for verification, either by the federal processor or by the school.

Why Was I Selected?
Selection does not mean you did anything wrong. Applications may be chosen at random or because certain information needs clarification (such as income, household size, or enrollment status).

What Is the Process?
If selected, the school will notify you of the specific documents required. These may include tax transcripts, W-2 forms, or other forms to confirm household or income information. Financial aid cannot be finalized until all required documentation is received and reviewed.

What Happens Next?
Once verification is complete, your FAFSA information may be confirmed or corrected. If corrections are necessary, your financial aid eligibility may change. You will be notified once the review is finished.

Required documentation will be posted on My ASU, under the Finances tab, in the Financing Tasks box. Please submit the required documents as soon as possible in order to ensure timely awarding of your financial aid.
