Federal Work-Study
does not disburse in a lump sum as a loan, scholarship or other types of aid. It is paid through bi-weekly paychecks for actual hours worked.
Additionally, FWS is
not credited to your balance owed to the university. You may
not earn more FWS than your FWS award amount. You must go through a traditional hiring process to obtain employment at ASU; you must apply to a posted position, interview and be hired into a FWS eligible position to take advantage of FWS.
Incoming students (with no prior attendance) are eligible for FWS employment starting the FIRST day of the semester. However, incoming students may begin working as hourly student employees if preregistered for the upcoming semester and after the prior semester has ended.
- Incoming students preregistered for fall semester may start working in an hourly position during the summer as soon as they are registered for the fall semester.
- Incoming students preregistered for spring semester may start working in an hourly position as soon as fall semester has ended.
- Incoming students preregistered for summer semester may start working in an hourly position as soon as spring semester has ended.
Student work schedules are arranged between you and the hiring department but student employees are limited to working no more than 25 hours per week, on a rolling average, for all jobs combined.
